As a creative writing major Lauren found her way to the English majors and minors club by random chance last fall. Lauren was the treasure for the Spring 2009 semester mostly because she was walking down the hall and Matt McGaw saw her. As the club needed a Treasurer to complete its charter, being a good hapa student Lauren got an A in Math 45, it seemed like a natural fit.
This semester Lauren became the president, basically because she was still going to be at LBCC in the fall. Though her coronation was relatively uneventful, she is definitely not a slacker and has utilized her relationship with the Long Beach Shakespeare Company to provide free theater to club members and recently taught interested members, along with IZ our secretary, how to crochet for our philanthropic project, making hats for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy in honor of Natalie Schiavone, a beloved English professor, who incidentally was also Lauren's creative writing teacher last fall.
Natalie is currently undergoing chemo. I just re-read this post and realized that making hats in Natalie's honor sounded like Natalie had passed away which is not the case. She is fitting in rounds of chemo between teaching classes and LBCC and running the Marian Simms Baughn center(Creative Writing).
